This piece comes from a series that explored the qualities of draping. The piece is draped with fabric which has been soaked in slip, during firing the base material burns away leaving the clay behind. Artists comment – “I found the need to express more deeply-felt issues making statements about our human experiences. The draped vessel became the vehicle by which I conveyed these feelings. They are about grief and loss, but also carry feelings of growth and renewal of the human spirit. I use references to classical sculpture, Japanese Art and images from films to express these ideas. Judge commented that this piece – “has an incredible presence, a mythical quality which makes it a haunting piece. The strange combination of elements presents a mystery which goes far beyond the ordinary statement.
